Project description

Calliper was appointed by the City of Johannesburg’s housing unit to carry out feasibility studies for the establishment of Rand Leases’ Extension 5 Township. At the time of the appointment, the land use consisted of a rugby field, vacant land and informal houses located on the Eastern corner of the site. The scope required the investigation of:

• Bulk and internal infrastructure for sewerage, water and roads
• Existing bulk electricity
• Existing wastewater treatment capacity
• Existing water supply capacity
• Geotechnical investigation
• Environmental investigation
• Traffic impact assessment

Project objective

The objective of the project was to determine whether the planning and implementation for the new development is feasible and whether the existing services have sufficient capacity to support the development of the township.
