Project description
Rehabilitation of P39/1 (R55) from Iscor Bridge (KM4, 77) to Road K71 (KM 7, 6) Pretoria Region
Project objective
The aim of the project was to strengthen the pavement structure in order to accommodate the estimated traffic over the long term and to implement road safety improvements. The project brought economic opportunities, skill transfer and capacity building for SMEs and employment creation for the local community.
Employment created
Forty-four labourers were employed for the duration of the contract. These labourers executed work as traffic management (flag person), cleaning of hydraulic structures, spreading of cement and finishing of the road reserve.
Training
Seven women and 13 men were trained by Imbawula Civil Engineering Academy on HIV awareness and engineering works (construction of kerbs and concrete, application of hot mix asphalt, maintenance and repair of un-surfaced and surfaced road).
